Characteristics:
* Dark colored - black or gray - upper body
* Bright yellow or yellow - orange ring around the neck
* Yellow to orange belly with black spots
* Underside of tail usually red-orange
* Smooth scales
* Nonvenomous
* Diet: earthworms, other small insects, and frogs
* Habitat: rocky hillsides of open woodlands
* Distribution: extreme southeastern South Dakota
