VOLUNTEER at the Outdoor Campus
The Outdoor Campus currently has over 150 volunteers. It is with their help that TOC is able to function so smoothly. By becoming a volunteer at The Outdoor Campus, you will experience a variety of opportunities that will increase your own and others' awareness of South Dakota's great outdoors.
Adult Volunteers
Qualifications to be an adult volunteer:
- Be at least 16 years of age or older
- Submit a completed application form to the volunteer coordinator by the application deadline
- Contact the volunteer coordinator
- Complete volunteer orientation training and any other pertinent classes
- Commit to a minimum of 50 hours a year
- Agree to and pass a criminal background check
Youth Volunteers
Qualifications to be a youth volunteer:
- Be 12 to 15 years old
- Submit a completed application form to the volunteer coordinator by the application deadline
- Contact the volunteer coordinator
- Complete volunteer orientation training and any other pertinent classes
Some of the Volunteer Activities Offered
Community Service
We get many inquiries about projects for scout groups, high school groups and others who who are interested in one-time ways to get involved at The Outdoor Campus. We have some projects to offer to your groups during the upcoming summer season. Please note that we do not offer opportunities for court-sentenced community service.
- Trail maintenance
- Removing garbage from trails
- Weekend bird feeder fillers
- Program preparation
- Museum cleaning
- Gardening and planting
